KNIGHTS IN MOTION / IN ACTION

The purpose

An active, healthy life
starts with “I can.”

Knights in Motion HPE is Eastern York’s comprehensive elementary Health and Physical Education program. Students build movement skills, fitness knowledge, relationships, and the ability to make healthy choices.

Success can be a new skill, a thoughtful decision, helping a classmate, or discovering an activity that feels like a good fit. Every student belongs in that story.

A different way in.
The same purpose.

01 / The approach

How it feels
matters.

Meaningful PE brings the student’s experience into focus. We plan for these five features, then listen to students to learn what actually matters to them.

Voice, choice, and inclusion run through it all. Adapt the route, offer support, and keep the learning meaningful. Students can show their thinking through movement, conversation, pointing, drawing, or other accessible responses.

02 / The learning

Four ways to
see growth.

In Grades 3–5, four PE badges give students language for the skills, knowledge, relationships, and personal meaning they are developing.

Explore a badge, then choose a grade to see how the learning grows.

How to read the badge framework

Badges make learning visible; completing an activity alone does not establish mastery. The Badge Master is a working Grades 3–5 framework, not a district grading policy. Its 2026 standards recommendations are EYSD-authorized for curriculum design and officially proposed, not state-adopted.

K–2 has a different starting point: exploration, observation, feedback, and student voice, without formal badge scoring.

03 / Signature experiences

Unexpected activities.
Purposeful learning.

A variety of experiences gives students more possibilities to discover, “There are ways of moving that are for me.” Choose an experience to see classroom moments, the learning, and ways to participate.

Six starting points. Twelve ways to explore.

Will they it,
it,
and it?

One question guides the experience.

Beyond the gym

Learning for today.
Possibilities for life.

We want students to leave elementary school with movement skills, confidence, and personal reasons to keep being active. Those foundations can grow as their interests, opportunities, and independence grow.

The belief we want every child to carry

“I can move. I can make healthy choices. I can care for myself and others. This belongs in my life.”

What we hope students carry forward

I can move with confidence.

Practice a skill, use feedback, and try a challenge that fits. Confidence grows when students recognize their own progress and know how to take a next step.

I can find ways to be active that fit me.

Explore a range of experiences, notice what feels enjoyable and meaningful, and make thoughtful choices about how to keep moving.

I can care for myself and others.

Cooperate, communicate, make healthy decisions, and ask for support. Movement and wellness belong in everyday life, relationships, and community.
